In the past different countries had their own different architectural character, but nowadays the design of buildings becomes increasingly similar. In my opinion, one reason for this is the unsatisfied for human needs.

In most of the countries, the rate of population shown a trend of increasing. Basic living supply could not satisfy humanity's needs. This leads to a large amount of construction of larger buildings, in order to provide more and more services for people. For example, business people need a better place to work. So they purchased a building in downtown and that causes a higher housing price living in downtown. Citizens demand more health service in their living community. Therefore, the government constructs new hospitals in the neighbourhood. Most of this kind of building build by steels and cements, which are some abundant inexpensive materials. In addition, some of the city might add some local materials in to the construction, such as stones, sands etc, but that would not influence the overall appearance. Therefore in consequence, when you travel around the world and stop in a city downtown area. You might not notice the different architectural character between different places. Today, all modern buildings look alike and cities throughout the world are becoming increasingly alike.

Architectural character of the building is one of the most important heritage that represents the history of a country. Losing historical heritage is not a good sign. In my personal opinion, I think more and more people are fickle in affection. People expect that their living environment becomes more international, but having no sense to protect their ancient treasure. This will become a serious social problem.

To conclude, in my perspective losing historical heritage is terrible but it is also inevitable. The population of the world is still increasing. Therefore, people need to abandon some of the culture in order to make their society better.
