Dear Mr. Hopkins,

My name is Deepika Gangula. I received the appointment letter from ABC company today with the joining date as November 15th 2012. I am excited about the opportunity as well as grateful for the support you have provided so far. I am writing to bring to your notice about a situation at hand due to which I will not be able to join on the date mentioned.

I am sorry I did not bring this up during the interview but I planned a vacation to my home country after my last day of college. I did not anticipate that the reporting date would be before December 1st week. My final exam at the college is on October 25th and I booked tickets to leave to India for the 31st. The return date is November 27th. I called the airlines to cut short my vacation but that would cost me $500 for the change. The penalty is quite high as well as my family will not be happy about my shorter stay.

I sincerely request you to accept my apologies for not mentioning about the trip and provide me a revised joining date of December 1st. Hoping to hear back positively from you.

Yours faithfully,

Deepika Gangula
