Natural resources are vital to human life. It is obvious that people’s demands in using such resources are on the increase. In this essay, the causes of this practice as well as the measures for it will be discussed.

There are some reasons why natural resources are consumed at a dramatic level. Firstly, due to the business profit, people tend to ignore the long-term benefits by exploiting them to the full. To take a common example of this practice, in order to gain the optimum productivity of crops, farmers use a lot of herbicides, insecticides and pesticides which cause soil degradation and even may affect the ecological system. Secondly, for the time being, effective alternative resources haven’t been developed, therefore, people have no better choice but keep using the conventional ones. For instance, if researchers could find a different kind of soil for plantation, then farmers would not have to heavily depend on natural one.

For the causes mentioned above, some measures could be suggested to tackle the problems. First of all, more intensive propaganda programmes related to sustainable development should be carried out to raise people’s awareness about the importance of this issue. Moreover, researchers should make great efforts in discovering many alternative resources which can meet people’s needs.

In conclusion, for the daily basic needs of human life, it is unavoidable for them to use the natural resources. The point is people should know how to exploit it in an acceptable way and should take further steps to prevent the negative impacts to the environment which may arise before it becomes too serious.
