Affect is a verb.

Ex: Inflation affects the buying power of the dollar.

Effect is a noun.

Ex: The drug had an immediate effect on the pain.

Influence has the same meaning as the word affect.

  • The first difference is that it can be used as a noun or a verb.

  • The second difference is that it's usually used when there is a sense of control being exerted, especially when there is a specific result.

Ex: The preference of your boss can influence your decision making.
