Common English Mistake: Most and Most of The

 

Answer:
Most: refers to an unspecified group
Most of The X: refers to a specified group.

Common Errors:

  • Most of students want less homework. => Fix: Most students want less homework (Meaning: generally, students like to have less homework.)

Conclusion:

If you use "Most" only, it must be followed by a noun such as Most students


If you use "Most of", it must be followed by "the + noun". For example, Most of the students want to have high marks
